The kitchen and butler's pantry had a thorough rehab, with new wiring, plumbing, Kitchen Maid white painted wood cabinets and easy close drawers in the kitchen area and stained cabinets and drawers in the butler's pantry (which boasts a separate sink). Some of the upper cabinets have leaded glass fronts including cabinets in the pantry. Two bedrooms in the rear share a full bath and the front two bedrooms across from the maid's room also share a bath. The rear closet off the hallway is vast and is currently storing artwork and other goods. Several of the closets have built-in bureaus. The back north bedroom closet even has a window. That bedroom has a door leading to the building's fire escape. In the basement is an additional private storage room. The building is located just one block from the lakefront. The bus to the University of Chicago Campus stops on 55th St and the express buses to the Loop are one block west on Hyde Park Blvd. The Metra stop is just two more blocks to the west. Restaurants and shops line 55th St and the Hyde Park Shopping Center is on the other side of the Metra tracks with Trader Joe's, Walgreens and other shops and restaurants. The campus is close by as are all of the restaurants and stores that make Hyde Park a destination for the entire South Side. Just beyond the Museum of Science and Industry (two blocks to the south) is the Barack Obama Center which will become another cultural magnet for the entire city. All of this space and a really terrific location at an amazingly affordable price makes this condominium the highlight of the season. Rentals are possible, but you need to own it for a full year before renting. Right now it is 100% owner occupied.
